These values help the organization create an educational environment that shapes conscious, competent, and socially active citizens.
In 2010, a group of activists, educators, and entrepreneurs initiated a movement aimed at fundamentally changing the approach to learning in Ukraine. Their goal was to adapt the education system to the modern demands of a rapidly changing society influenced by technological progress and globalization. They recognized that the traditional education system no longer met the needs of the future. This was the first step toward a modern, more flexible education system that is adapted to the needs of society.
In 2014, the leader of the public organization, Anastasiia Kyreeva-Kyslynska, joined the development of the "Vision of a New Country" within the framework of the "New Country" project. The aim of this project was to create a shared vision for the future of Ukraine that aligned with the interests and aspirations of its citizens. Participants proposed a concept grounded in democratic values, transparent institutions, and sustainable development, particularly in the fields of education and science. In 2014, when Ukraine faced new challenges, particularly due to the ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation), there arose a need for rapid response. One such step was the establishment of an educational resource center in a camp for internally displaced persons, including mothers with children from affected regions. This center was founded in the Chernihiv region as part of a joint project with the International Charitable Foundation "In Honor of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God." The center aimed to provide support and education to the displaced, facilitate their adaptation to new conditions, and ensure that children had access to education even during difficult times.
In 2015, we participated in the 4th International Conference on School Choice and Reform held in Florida, USA. This event brought together experts and leading specialists in the field of education from around the world to discuss innovative approaches to school choice and educational systems. Participants explored future directions for collaborative research and discussed current trends influencing the development of education globally.
In 2016, an educational tour of schools in Europe took place, marking an important stage in the exploration of advanced educational practices. During this tour, renowned educational institutions were visited: Ørestad Gymnasium and Hellerup School in Copenhagen, Saunalahti School in Finland, as well as a number of schools operating under the Dalton system in the Netherlands. These schools exemplify innovative approaches to education, focusing on student autonomy, flexibility in the educational process, and the development of critical thinking. Based on the research and experience gained, the "Spilnoschool" project was initiated in Ukraine, synthesizing the best European educational models adapted to Ukrainian realities.
Illustration In 2020, we initiated the creation of an innovative educational environment for children aged 3 to 16. The architectural concept of the new space is designed to create all the possibilities for implementing social and educational innovations, supporting new ways of learning, development, and collaboration. In 2021, Spilnosad was created for preschool children and SpilnoSpace, which offers extracurricular opportunities for children — courses, workshops, studios, thematic meetings, and off-site programs. The space is organized to facilitate children’s movement, interaction, and self-expression. The kindergarten features learning classrooms, bedrooms on the second floor, a gym, a large playground for games, and cozy corners for communication. Special attention is given to the educational program, which aims to maintain a balance between intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. Preschool education is an extremely important educational phase that lays the foundation for children's further development. Therefore, we strive to provide the most favorable conditions during this stage of life.
In 2022, Kyiv Gymnasium "Spilnoschool" received a grant to develop the online course "Fakeology" for teenagers. The course materials were created in collaboration with the school's students and are based on real examples of disinformation encountered during the war, commonly found online. The main goal of this course is to equip teenagers with practical media literacy skills that will enable them to recognize fake information. By completing the course, teenagers gain confidence in navigating the digital space, develop critical thinking, learn to make informed decisions, and avoid spreading misinformation. "Fakeology" prepares children to become informed and responsible digital citizens, ready to make a positive contribution to their communities and protect themselves and others from the effects of disinformation.
In 2022, a new format senior school for 10th and 11th-grade students, U: Maker Academy, was launched. The concept of A.U: m arose from the need to reform the senior school, as what the educational market currently offers does not allow for the optimal combination of each student's still undeveloped yet unique inner potential with the limitless opportunities and offerings of the world. Studying at U: Maker Academy helps address the following challenges: The senior school is a time of important life choices that must be made under conditions of uncertainty, with insufficient materials and experience for such decisions. There is a need to understand what the child intends to do and to choose a direction in life. The fear of making a mistake leads to procrastination and the desire to "escape" from this problem. There is a task to master the tools of real life. The transition from a situation where almost everything was decided for you to one where you make nearly all the decisions yourself proves to be too abrupt.
